Valley Environmental Summit Overview

The Valley Environmental Summit will be held at the Texas State Technical College on Friday, September 24, 2010. The summit to be held in the City of Harlingen and will cover the cities in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy County. The Valley Environmental Summit is created by local and state leaders in partnership with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as a result of TCEQ's environmental border initiative.  

The purpose of this summit is to create an association of federal, state and local political leaders, neighborhood associations, colonia residents, non-profits, businesses, to address the environmental needs and successes that are found in our community.

Purpose:  

Create a successful, annual environmental summit that:

     ·         Brings together border grassroots,  local and state stakeholders to identify primary environmental
            issues and;

     ·
        
Come up with solutions to the Valley’s environmental issues.

     ·         Create a venue where the local elected officials can work with the community and residents to highlight urgent environmental issues 


Issues:

     ·
        
Prevention of illegal disposal sites of used tires.


     ·         Develop a master drought contingency plan for the Valley.


Mission Statement: Identify environmental issues potential solutions, and promote a synergy between the community and elected officials.
